General Information About Liposuction
Liposuction is a serious cosmetic surgery that was intended for those people whose bodies were disproportioned and who were psychologically affected by those parts of their body. Liposuction surgery whether performed with ultra sound, radio waves, or any of the available lasers is invasive if the skin is cut and appliances are applied. Moreover, the removal of fatty deposits is an operation regardless of whether or not they were melted or broken off before removed with a suction syringe.
Liposuction should not be used as a means to lose weight since the patient will simply gain weight again. Repeat liposuction on the same areas is not recommended because of the increased risk of scar tissue from the previous liposuction. Lipo procedures are performed on an outpatient basis with a local anesthesia or in the hospital with a general anesthesia. In either case, the patient should have some one with them to drive them home and to stay with them for at least the first day.
SmartLipo or laser liposuction is also invasive although less invasive than tumescent lipsuction. Regardless of the type of liposuction suregery one decides on with one ’s plastic surgeon, the volume of fat that is to be removed should be 4 pounds. If more than 10 pounds of fatty deposits are removed, as in large volume liposuction the patient is at increased risk for shock. There are other side effects that are possible from liposuction that are not anesthesia related and should be thoroughly discussed with the plastic surgeon.
